Abandoned Star Wars Sets

NY based Photographer Rä di Martino discovered an abandoned Star Wars set in Tunisia after seeing a tourist photo and tracking it with the help of locals. Her series called Every World’s a Stage features great photos of the Tatooine set , or what’s left of it, from Star Wars IV.

TrA installation by Jose di Gregorio

About the project:

[TrA] holds the essence of a planetarium and a mandala. This fall, Di Gregorio took his young children to the planetarium at the Lawrence Hall Of Science in Berkeley, CA. While constellations may seem like nothing more than memory aids to distinguish particular stars, they also remind us how small we are in the universe and that this is part of what makes us important to each other. One constellation in particular caught DiGregorio’s attention, the small Triangulum Australe (TrA) in the southern sky.

To create a mandala with the constellation, TrA uses the principles of the Net of Indra. It stretches out infinitely in all directions and is associated with the motionless timeless center of the universe. To illustrate theses concepts of emptiness, as well as interpenetration, ten circles that form a density in its design. TrA serves as the equilateral triangle increasingly obscured within the circles.

Artist’s statement:

“The world seems to me increasingly incomprehensible, and there are times when I feel there isn’t anything that I know for certain. For me, making photographs (or painting, or whatever) is necessary to translate the unintelligible reality of being into a more coherent form. Or at least to illustrate my best guesses. There is vastly more nothing in the universe than something, and I try to create images that recognize the grace by which anything at all exists.”

Graphic Lamps by Delightfull

I love these floor, table and wall lamps based on different typefaces. There are some truly beautiful lights in their alphabet and numeral set. I think I need that slab serif ‘E’.

Delightfull, who are based on Porto, will be at Clerkenwell Design Week coming up next week in London.

Thanks to @Mae84 for the awesome link.

I created a video to show the process of how I made an animated GIF in Photoshop. I learned how to do screen recordings today and thought maybe it could be helpful to someone. My awesome friend Lisa showed me how to do this last semester so I’m just passing on the knowledge. :)

Attention is what creates value. Artworks are made as well by how people interact with them — and therefore by what quality of interaction they can inspire. So how do we assess an artist who we suspect is dreadful but who manages to inspire the right storm of attention, and whose audience seems to swoon in the appropriate way? We say, ‘Well done.’

The question is: ‘Is the act of getting attention a sufficient act for an artist? Or is that in fact the job description?’

Perhaps the art of the future will be indistinguishable.

— Music legend Brian Eno, born on May 15, 1948, considers the essence and currencies of art. (via explore-blog)
